The foregoing references are only a few of those that are contained in the Word of God and they each display in varioue degrees the power and abilities God has bestowed on the angels.
For example :-
1 The capacity to enter and exit burning fires as though it does not exist
2 To travel unhindered through any and all physical abjects and matter at the speed of thought,
3 To handle physical objects of great weight with no effort
4 To impart healing at the behest of the Lord
5 To destroy cities and armies singlehandedly and inflict punishment
6 To control wild and untamed animals
7 To never be able to die
8 To worship God in a way that far excells what we are presently capable of
9 Etc, etc, etc
There are probably many other abilities that can be attributed to the angels that we know nothing of, but the ones I have mentioned present a picture of angels as awesome individuals in the service of the living God.
In Luke 20 - 36 Jesus said that those who are worthy and are resurrected to life will be equal to the angels of God being children of God. In 1 John 3:2 we read "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him ; for we shall see Him as He is." Since our Lord and Saviour is far above all angels in power, might, righteouness, glory etc and since the Word of God says we shall be like Him, I think we can assume that the resurrected believer will excell in all things above the angels. Paul in writing to the Corinthians said "know ye not that we shall judge angels? " (1 Corinthians 6:3) I am not clever enough to explain this but my simple understanding of God's Word tells me that these angels cannot be the fallen ones since in the life hereafter they are consigned to the lake of fire, therefore one would think that some of the holy angels must at some time disagree with one another (after all they will be nearly human then) while the saints will be nearer to being godlings. Paul also talks about the believers judging the world and how to judge matters in wisdom and righteousness between ourselves as a forerunner to that day.
I wonder why Paul says in verse 4 "If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church ." Is it because they have no status to maintain ? Is it because they will have no favours to return? Is it because they are more humble or lower in society and treat others as equals and not as lesser persons? Is it because they have nothing to prove? Is it because they have a life with more hardship and so are predisposed to being fair? Is it because they have nothing to hide? Is it because they have no ambitions of grandeur? Is it because they have no friends in high circles? Why? I think that merits a talk on it's own.
Once everyone is resurrected some to a life with the Lord and others to condemnation it will not be possible to for anyone to die, thus punishment for the sinner will be eternal as it will be for satan and his angels. John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (Rev 20. v10, 14 & 15)
There is a faction of "hunanity ?" that will never be resurrected and these are they who are the offspring of the illegal and unrighteous liason between fallen angels and ungodly women. (Isaiah 26:14) These beings had earthly mothers but no earthly fathers so are not considered to be part of the human race.
So the saints will have similar capacities and abilities to the angels. Notice in Judges 13 v18 , the angel says "Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?" and in Rev 2 v17 the Lord says "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it ." this is another suprising similarity to the angels, in the story of Manoah the angel does not reveal his name but completes his task and vanishes. The white stone must be some sort of jewel rather than just a piece of white rock, and since I don't much about jewels I can't say more on that subject. The giving of a new name to every believer by God seems to me to be the Father renaming or calling His children by names which have much more meaning to and for each person. Since mankind is created in the image of God and God is an individual with many names and titles unique to Himself then His children must be renamed in like manner otherwise there will thousands of Johns, Bills, Marys, Ruths and all the other names mankind uses to identify itself and often falsely. When God names or renames in His Word all names have a specific meaning and reason for being chosen. It may be possible that the names of those people whom God has named and renamed in His Word will remain unchanged for all eternity since God says "my Word will not pass away" The Word of God declares He calleth all the stars by name, and there numberless billions of them so renaming all the saints just ain't a problem. Because man is made in the image of God every man and woman must have a tiny little bit of the character of God in ther makeup so no 2 people are exactly identical even identical twins have a minor difference somewhere in their nature, So the almighty God would I think rename all His saints accordingly. I don't know how many angels there are but there must be trillions and each one has his own name unduplicated and unshared. We have an inconcievably awesome God !
In the physical and human realm there are many barriers, some metal, some brick walls, walls of stone in fact walls of anything mankind can fabricate and fashion with the power of his mind and hands. In the spiritual realm there is no such thing as a wall except that which may be constructed by God. Since nothing physical can inhabit the spiritual realm there are no barriers for angels whether good or bad to negotiate. Also since time is not a part of eternity as some people think, cos time is measurable and therefore finite and will have an end at Gods discretion and eternity has no end or beginning nor is it measurable and since distance follows the same rules and since the speed of light is constant and subject to the laws of physics , none of these things can affect the movement or transposition of any being that is spiritual. Therefore the angels can move/travel faster than the speed of light and are not subject to any kind of gravity nor heat nor cold nor any kind of detrimental or adverse conditions that we humans are so familiar with. Angels can move at the speed of thought, imagine being in LA California and thinking you want to be in Paris France and you are suddenly there. So if we will be equal to the angels then what a glowing prospect we have for the future and that is only a small part of it. In our new bodies the ability to worship and glorify God will be greatly enhanced and infinitely more rewarding. In our new bodies, tiredness, day and night, sleep, hunger, thirst, boredom, manual labour, time, disease, want or need of any kind will not enter the equation.
In Matthew 22:30 we read "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage," I'll bet a lot of people heaved a sigh of relief when they read that, no more nagging, no more burnt dinners or "your dinners in the dog", no more "where have you been?" or "I bumped the car" or "they're your kids you sort em out"
We've all said similar things at some time or other being as we are all human. In the resurrection all will be answerable to the Lord and not past wives or husbands. Sex and the need or desire for it will be done away with but men will still be men and women will still be women and recognizable as such or how else could you share joy and rewards together for the work you did for the Lord on earth. I think that in such a righteous and holy atmosphere in the presence of the Lord those kind of thoughts and needs will never arise in our new celestial bodies and there will be no secret places to hide in anyway, so no need to worry about birth control or a pay rise to keep your head above water. Not only but also the knowledge and wisdom of every believer will be increased so there should not be any idiots or fools in heaven. When God declares that time shall be no more and all evil is cast into the lake of fire, all spiritual warfare will be ended, so I would imagine that many many angels will be re-assigned new careers or positions according to will of God or perhaps revert to their original reasons for being created.
1 Corinthians 2:9 says "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." This would seem to be a direct reference to the only other verse in scripture that makes a similar statement and it is found in Job 28:7 and reads as follws "There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:" ,while these verses are no doubt a reference to the christian way of life I think they could also be applied to the future life with the Lord God in eternity. I look forward to meeting the man Christ Jesus and son of the Living God who gave up everything in glory and died for me on a cross. This totally unselfish act of inconceivable love and mercy has more than won my heart and devotion, it asks for all that I am for time and eternity so it's gonna be more than great to be equal to the angels. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
